Levi’s Stadium, the new $1.2 billion home of the San Francisco 49ers, has taken the sports experience to a whole new level. It has a bridge with solar panels that help make the stadium energy neutral, 49 foot high LCD displays, 4G and Wi-Fi throughout, a museum with a STEM friendly classroom and more. Jennifer Elias, “Five Ways the 49ers new stadium will change the game.”

The primary challenge: Make the in-stadium experience as good or better than the at-home TV experience. Did they use “As Is” and “To Be” Value Curves? We don’t think so but they were certainly thinking along those lines.

25 engineers–comprised of some veterans from companies like Facebook and Yahoo—worked on the software and data platforms for the Stadium, incorporating technology without taking over the game experience. The app’s game center:
1. Reveals parking patterns and what roads fans take to get to the stadium. (They’ve already linked tickets and parking for almost 70% of their ticket base).
2. Helps by suggesting the best points of entry, exits, traffic alerts, and ticket transfers
3. Collects data on what food and beverage you’re consuming and at what times throughout the game. (They sold a lot of curry during the first 49ers home game)
4. Allows you to order food and drinks from your seat
5. Allows you to see real-time stats and scores of all other games without switching in and out of external apps like Yahoo sports or NFL.com.
